RE: Dodge 5.9L vs 6.7L

OK, I just could not wait to post this. I check my milage(by hand) at every fill up, makes my wife crazy. However I have not done this over the winter because I lent my truck to a friend for a weekend and he filled up and did not record milage and know my milage is around 10 for city (cold weather, blended fuel, winter tires). I just took a trip from Helena,MT to Lewistown,MT and got 24mpg WOW the best to date was 20. I drove avg of 65 and included a stop in Great Falls. There was a slight tail wind which maybe added 1 mpg? I just turned 21000 miles. If you get the 5.9 get a EB. Either one will please. I just wish I had mega dually.

RE: Long Lasting Vehicles

Fun post to read. I got my grandma's 84 Chrysler New Yorker (K car body style)with the 2.2L engine. You had to be driving downhill to pass anyone, If you tried to accelerate to fast and it down shifted you would slow down. Anyway, It was the most comfortable car (for my body style) ever. Chased my future wife all around the country in that car. I went about 212,000 miles and sold it for $500. Needed tranny work.

RE: Do I need a dually or SRW for new Chevy 3500 HD Deisel

I test drove Dodge mega dually and it rode way nicer than my truck in sig. I feel that I am at the limit of comfort for my truck and wish I had a dually even if mine is a daily driver. Go test drive them both.

RE: Improving Gas Mileage

I have an Edge chip for my truck and not sure if it helped my mpg but I do like the extra HP in tow mode. I can really tell the difference towing about #10500 5th. I get 12mpg unless driving in SD. The wind is always 20-30mph right in you face know matter which direction you are driving.

RE: What would you do, 3.73 or 4.10?

I am pulling a WildCat a little bigger than yours and I have 3.73 and It pulls great. I do have a Edge chip which really makes a nice differance. If I had it to do over I would have gone with a mega dually but do not want to take a big hit on my truck trading. My truck is a daily driver and love it for that also.

RE: Dogs in the trailer?

If I had a dog I would let it ride with my family, in the 5th wheel.

RE: Worried about snowload

A quick side note. I have a PacBrake on my Dodge and it really helps driving in the mountains.

RE: Worried about snowload

Need to know where you will be. Days are getting longer and the weather is starting to turn. This week will be in the 40's during the day. Very nice. We always seem to get a big storm end of March. Will you be hooked up to full service? I used a oil filled electric heater last fall during hunting season and that will really help save on propane. A good blanket of snow will help insulate your camper. Over 6 inches I would think about brooming it off.

Here is what I installed. Picked up this cutoff switch at local boat center. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh15/iflych52/IMG_0616.jpg?t=1203315492

RE: high end toy hauler?

Marv, What brands have you looked at? The Raptor that has the kitchen slideout might be a nice floor plan. Has a bunk above in the back. Do not know the model number. Off topic we spent last 4th of July at the Polson KOA. What a great fireworks show over the lake. Isabel cafe is a great spot for breakfast. My daughter's name is Isabel so we just had to check it out.

RE: Cold shower interruptions

My shower will dribble a little but I still get the cold blast. I am going to try something. Anyone find and check valve that will work?

RE: 08 mega 1 ton and a hitch question.....

mega and quad cab short box are the same length. No slider for me, just have to be careful. With a mega you have a longer wheel base so that will make a differance. If I went with a slide it would be an auto like Planecrazy.

RE: Exhaust Braking

I have a PacBrake on my truck and love it. Anytime I leave home for a trip I am going over mountains. My truck would want to run away with out the Ebrake, now I can come down nice and steady. It also warms up your engine. I test drove a new dodge and did not think it had quite the stoping power of the Pac but this could be this differance in having an extra two gears?

RE: 2007 5.9 CTD Exhaust Brake

pac on mine and love it. What is also a great benefit when it is cold is it really warms up your engine. Brake will stay on until engine temp is 180 then kick off. My Dodge would really run away in the mountains with out the brake.

RE: What can I Tow with my 2500 Ram????

Your truck will pull the load but how well will your truck stop and handle cross winds, turns and passing semi's? I have a pac exhaust brake and it REALLY helps here in the mountains. If I had to do it again I would have a mega dually. My Wildcat is about 33' long and 11000lbs loaded with a pin of about 1700. I love my turck and it pulls great getting about 12mpg. It would just be a safty factor going with the duallys for me. That is what makes this forum so great. Lots of ideas.
